Hey y’all, sorry for the lack of posts. But, to quote every obnoxious pre-med ever, I’ve been really busy lately.
I am very happy to report that I am currently preparing for an interview scheduled for the end of January. Any tips are always appreciated!
Til I actually write my own stuff, here are some good articles:
“Top 7 in Evolutionary Biology” (The Scientist Magazine)
“My Guantanamo Nightmare” (NY Times) A man who was released from Gitmo after a horrible 10 year, unjustified hold there shares his story.
“A medical student’s first patient encounter” (Kevin, MD blog)
Good luck! I’ll be thinking of you and wishing you the best!
Lots of love, Aunt Miriam & The Rankin File
Welcome back! You’ve been missed. Good luck with your interview. People say this all the time, but the best tip I can give is to BE RELAXED. I was so nervous at my first interview that I *know* I looked uncomfortable and I stumbled over my words at the interview. It didn’t help that the Dean interviewed me, or that it was my first interview. But after my first one, I relaxed significantly and actually had fun. Talk with the other kids at the interview (don’t be the one who brings up the MCAT score, obviously) but try (try is the key verb here) to engage in topics that are outside the realm of medicine. Like hobbies. Which will of course, relate back to medicine, but at least it’ll keep the atmosphere less tense than that person who wants to know everyone’s MCAT and SAT scores. And yes, there will always be one of those.
